About Susan Lynn Martin

Growing up, I was encouraged to pursue excellence in all that I did. As a youngster I adopted the 4-H club motto, "To make the best better," as my own personal motto. That same desire to improve my own life, combined with the joy I find in helping others achieve their dreams is what led me to join the John Maxwell Team.

As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist since 1981, I now manage laboratory operations at the University of Missouri Healthcare's Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. My education includes a Bachelors of Health Science in Medical Technology and, more recently, a Master of Education in Educational Technology, with an emphasis in Learning Systems Design and Development, both from the University of Missouri.

From the first time I heard John speak, there was an instant connection with his teachings and timeless principles. I have been steadily applying his leadership principles to my work and personal life to enhance my own effectiveness, decision-making, and communication skills. With over 10 years of leadership experience in the healthcare arena, I know the principles work. I have successfully led work groups through many complex projects and change initiatives and have been developing individuals within my own work group.

As a wife and mother, Bible study teacher, and a small-business owner, I also know the principles will work in any setting. Two of my greatest personal successes are celebrating 30 years of marriage to my amazing husband, and with his help, raising three children who are effective leaders in their own right.

In today’s world of rapid change, you must have a structured plan for personal growth and development to successfully navigate life’s inevitable challenges. Together, we can forge a path that will transform you into the effective leader you aspire to be.
