I loved my 32-year career in forensic science with the federal government and was excited to get up early and start each day. When promoted to leadership positions as Crime Laboratory Director (Office of Investigations) and Strategic Advisor (Office of Chief Human Capital), I discovered through one-on-one meetings that most employees did not have goals and were just coming in for the paycheck. This is one reason why I am so passionate about coaching and professional development because it helps people communicate what they want and provides a plan and confidence to live differently.
