As someone who has always been passionate about developing leaders and helping organizations achieve their greatest potential, I am honored to share my journey and the experiences that brought me to Maxwell Leadership.
I began my career in Moundsville, West Virginia, as an attorney, eventually serving as Secretary of Tax and Revenue under Governor Cecil Underwood. My path led me into higher education, where I served as president at both West Liberty University and Bluefield State University. At West Liberty, I led the institution to record enrollment and fundraising, launched new academic programs, and oversaw the construction of a $22 million health sciences building. At Bluefield State, a historically black college, I guided the university to new heights—gaining university status, introducing its first graduate degrees, improving fiscal health, and significantly increasing enrollment and diversity despite the challenges of the pandemic.
My leadership style focuses on empowering others, fostering innovation, and creating inclusive environments. I am most proud of opening new opportunities for students, supporting faculty and staff, and championing strategic growth at every institution I have served. My creative pursuits—including authoring books, producing films, and teaching as a Fulbright Scholar—reflect my commitment to lifelong learning and meaningful impact.
Currently, I am the Principal Fellow at The Carnegie Academy and continue to consult for higher education institutions nationwide. My passion for leadership development and transformation is what led me to Maxwell Leadership, and I am excited to walk alongside others in their leadership journey.
