I opened an insurance agency in south central Florida for my previous employer in 1992. I purchased the agency in 1995. Today I have two offices and a commercial real estate company. During those years I obtained the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor and I am currently working on my second designation (Certified Property and Casualty Underwriter). I am the leader of the men’s group at my church. More importantly, I am the leader and mentor of a group of outstanding employees. As they are thankful for me, I am thankful that I had a coach and mentor in my corner, Dr. John Maxwell.
I was exposed to John Maxwell’s teachings in 1994 and little did I know that it was preparing me for the opportunity and challenges ahead. I have learned to navigate through some stormy times. I have learned to lead people from their vantage point. Right now, my staff is actively rewriting my companies mission statement and our goals for the next two decades, giving them ownership and buy in for their future. My staff is in a personal growth mode and they have a high level of job satisfaction.
A lot of my customers desire to become employees of mine because they just love the environment that I have created. I do not think that other employers are poor leaders, but I do believe that they have not been taught sound leadership principles to create an environment that is an enjoyable place to work at. This is why I have joined the John Maxwell Team. I want to help spread the virus so that we can create a better working environment for all people.
