You're suddenly paralyzed and a doctor tells you that at best you won't walk for a year or more. At worst, you may not survive. What do you do?
The world's top leadership expert, Dr. John C. Maxwell once said that "at the end of your rope is the beginning of hope."
That held true for me in February, 1993 when I became fully paralyzed and doctors did not know if I would make it to the next day.
Thankfully, I survived and recovered in record time. But more importantly, the experience taught me that our biggest challenges are opportunities for biggest growth, whether in business, in our personal life or out in our community.
I now use this principle to coach leaders who are going through a time of crisis, distress or adversity. A “crisis leadership coach”, if you will.
My own leadership experience has evolved from a handful of scientists and engineers to large, multi-disciplinary, global teams; from Fortune 50 corporations such as General Electric and Johnson & Johnson to small family-owned businesses and startups; and from countless leadership challenges to practical lessons and victories.
But my most rewarding times came from helping to equip young leaders who went on to experience God's love, "beat the odds" and made a difference in their world.
My wife and I live in Arizona, USA. Born in Belgium, I still enjoy fries with mayonnaise, Belgian beer, and a good Belgian chocolate. Have one with me. Because I, too, am your friend.
